The Webster Technique
The Webster Technique is a certification granted by the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association. The Webster Protocol is specifically designed to detect and treat sacral and pelvic dysfunction in a pregnant woman. It is intended to restore normal physiological function of the mother and to improve her comfort throughout her pregnancy and to prepare her for a safer, easier delivery. There has been a correlation between sacral and pelvic dysfunction with women who present with breeched fetuses. It has been found that sacral and pelvic dysfunction can cause the tightening and torsion of specific pelvic muscles and ligaments. These tight muscles and ligaments can have a negative effect on the uterus which may prevent the fetus from comfortably assuming the best possible birthing position.
While this technique is meant to provide a better environment for the fetus for it to assume the best position for birthing, it is NOT a technique meant to turn the baby.
This technique is very comfortable for the expectant mother and a special pillow is used to support and cushion the mother's belly to allow her to lay face down.
Rocktape
RockTape can be applied to an expectant mother using a "baby belt" pattern. This helps to support the pregnant belly and optimizes the mother's comfort. For more about RockTape, check out the Kinesiology Tape page!
