Last week we started our series outlining the Max Relief Bundle. Residents who are looking for a chiropractor in Rochester, NY that can get them out of pain faster and more efficiently should look no further!

The Max Relief Bundle is a comprehensive chiropractic visit at Rush-Henrietta Family Chiropractic that includes:

Last week we discussed the first stage of the bundle - Class IV Deep Tissue Laser Therapy. This week we are talking about the next stage of treatment - electrical muscle stimulation and spinal adjustment!

For those of you who have had chiropractic care in the past, you probably had a spinal adjustment in some form or another and you may have even had electrical muscle stimulation at those visits. For you guys, this may be more of a refresher as they are common treatments in most chiropractic offices!

Electrical Muscle Stimulation and Heat Therapy

This stage of treatment begins with our electrical muscle stimulation and heat therapy.

Electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) provides:

  • Relaxation of muscle spasms
  • Increasing blood circulation
  • Increasing range of motion
  • Prevention of muscle wasting/atrophy
  • Decrease pain sensations

Moist heat therapy provides:

  • Relaxation of muscle spasms
  • Increasing blood circulation
  • Decrease pain sensations
  • Improve flexibility

As you can see, electrical muscle stimulation and moist heat therapy have very similar benefits and go hand in hand with each other. In our office, we apply both therapies simultaneously for maximum results!

The combination of electrical muscle stimulation and moist heat therapy is extremely comfortable and it’s not uncommon for patients to actually fall asleep while the therapy is on!

Patients love it so much that they tell us all the time “I wish I could take that home with me”. (hint hint: our TENS units are on sale for the month of March!)

Once the EMS and heat therapy are complete, we move right into working on those tight muscles even more. Whether it’s by using a massage gun like the Hypervolt or manually with hands/elbows, we like to get those muscles nice and relaxed for the next stage: the spinal manipulation.

Spinal Manipulation

Spinal manipulation aka spinal adjustment aka “the adjustment” is the bread and butter of chiropractic care. No it’s not as simple as the bone being “out of place” and we “pop it back in”.

What we truly are doing during an adjustment is to look and feel for joints that aren’t moving properly and simply mobilizing them so that they have a normal range of motion.

An adjustment can be administered in many different ways - some more gentle than others - and at our office, we cater the adjustment style based on the individual patient. A chiropractor in Rochester, NY should have a “patient centered” approach as every individual has their own specific needs.

The “pop” or “crack” during an adjustment is the air pockets being released within the joints that are adjusted and is completely harmless. Most patients feel an immediate sense of relief and improvement after an adjustment is performed as their joints are finally able to move freely!

So far, we’ve gone over the Class IV Laser Therapy, electrical muscle stimulation/heat therapy, and the spinal manipulation.

At this point of treatment, we have kickstarted the healing process, improved blood circulation, reduced inflammation, improved range of motion, and released pressure from the joints!

Next week we will get into the next stage of the Max Relief Bundle - kineseotaping!
