Care That Fits Between Classes

Led by Dr. Ryan Wong, DC, practicing in Rochester since 2015

If you study or work at Rochester Institute of Technology, Rush-Henrietta Family Chiropractic is about a mile from campus on West Henrietta Road. When you need a chiropractor near RIT, you can get here and back between classes without losing half your day.

Care is led by Dr. Ryan Wong, DC, who graduated with honors from New York Chiropractic College and has been practicing in Rochester since 2015. He grew up a short distance from the office and graduated from Rush-Henrietta High School, so this corner of Rochester is home.

The clinic has served Rochester since 2002, and Dr. Wong sees a lot of RIT students. Their complaints tend to sound alike: a stiff neck after long hours at a screen, a lower back that aches by the end of a lab block, or shoulders that lock up during exam season.

Why Long Hours at a Screen Catch Up With Your Neck and Back

Coding, CAD work, studio projects, and late nights in the library all ask the same thing of your body: hold still, lean forward, and look down. Over a semester, that position puts steady load on the joints and muscles of your neck and upper back. Some people call the result "tech neck."

Your lower back takes its share too. Long stretches in a lecture seat or on a lab stool tighten the hip flexors and compress the lumbar joints. Add a heavy backpack and a Rochester winter walk across campus, and small aches start to stick around.

Stretch breaks and a better chair help. When stiffness keeps coming back anyway, the joint and muscle mechanics behind it usually need a closer look, which is what a chiropractic assessment is for. For more detail, see our posture correction, neck pain, and back pain pages.

Meet Dr. Ryan Wong

Dr. Wong earned his B.S. in Biology at SUNY Brockport, then his Doctor of Chiropractic at New York Chiropractic College in Seneca Falls. He graduated with honors and is a member of the Phi Chi Omega Chiropractic Honor Society. His clinical rotations included the Rochester VA system, Monroe Community Hospital, and St. Joseph's Neighborhood Center.

He chose chiropractic after watching his mother avoid shoulder surgery through chiropractic care. He went through a demanding science program himself and has mentored chiropractic students, so he understands what a full course load does to your schedule and your posture. Patients often say everything is explained and upfront from the start, and that is how he runs every visit.

Depending on what he finds, your care may include chiropractic adjustments by hand or with an Activator instrument, Graston and ConnecTX soft tissue therapy, Fascial Movement Taping, or Class IV deep tissue laser therapy.

What to Expect at Your First Visit

An Assessment That Looks at Your Habits

Dr. Wong reviews your health history and checks your posture, spine, and movement. He also asks how you sit, study, and carry your bag, since those habits often explain the pain.

A Plan You Can Actually Follow

You leave with a clear explanation, a realistic care plan, and simple changes for your desk, laptop, and backpack, with no pressure to book more visits than you need.

What Students Notice When the Pain Settles Down

Every case is different, and Dr. Wong will tell you honestly what to expect after your assessment. Students who work on the mechanics behind their neck and back pain often describe:

  • Getting through a long lecture, lab, or coding session without shifting in their seat every few minutes
  • Fewer tension headaches during heavy study weeks
  • Sleeping better and feeling less stiff on the walk to class

RIT faculty and staff are welcome too. Desk-heavy campus jobs bring the same patterns, and the drive from campus is just as short.
